Art was born August 28, 1928 on a farm near Chapman, Nebraska, to Arthur B. and Alice (Johnson) Wiser. He attended country school until the 8th grade. His dad was injured in a farming accident and forced Art to quit school and take over the farm at the age of 14. Art married Lois Garretson on September 8, 1949, in Kearney, Nebraska. To this union four children were born. They lived and farmed west of Osceola, Nebraska, from 1953 – 1971 when they moved to a farm west of Columbus.

Art loved homemade pie and his loyal farm dogs. Art loved the farm and was a workaholic until suffering a stroke in 2010. He enjoyed watching the Huskers play football, volleyball, and basketball. Art enjoyed going to farm auctions and the sale barn. He farmed (with John Deere farm equipment), did custom haying, was a heavy equipment operator for 10 years, and worked at Behlen Manufacturing where he was a welder. Art was proud of his “BUDWISR” license plate and from there acquired the nickname of “Bud”.
