Norma Maxon age 77 of Laurel passed away Monday at a Sioux City, Iowa Hospital. Services will be held at the United Lutheran Church in Laurel on Friday November 9 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the United Lutheran Church in Laurel on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. with family present. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Interment at the
Laurel Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to United Lutheran Church in Laurel for the Rebecca Johnson Mission.
Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Laurel.

Norma Rae Maxon was born July 10, 1935, at home on the Beemer hill to Detlof and Lorna (Stark) Ott. She was baptized August 4, 1935, and confirmed in 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Beemer. She attended eight years of grade school at Immanuel Lutheran School, graduated from Beemer High School in 1953, and Wayne State College in 1954. She then taught rural school at District #45 east of West Point for one year. Norma married Larry Maxon May 21, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Beemer. They farmed near Laurel for fifty-seven years. Norma was actively involved in her church and many outreaches including Prison Ministry.
Norma is survived by her husband, Larry; four sons, and one daughter, Roger (Terri) Maxon of Ashland, Kathleen (Bill) Dalton of Le Mars, IA, Jerry Maxon, Glen (Nancy) Maxon, and Clark (Penny) Maxon all of Laurel; thirteen grandchildren, Eva (Tyler) Carson, Nate Maxon, Leah Maxon, Justin (Ann) Dalton, Derek Dalton, Amanda (Kurt) Van Kley, Danae (Brett) Wieking, (Ashley, Tanner, and Matthew Maxon) (Kylie, Katie, and Lorna Maxon); seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Arvolene (Merle) Martin and Glenn (Ann) Ott all of Beemer, Gene (Loraine) Ott of Wisner, Joyce (Lorrin) Toelle of Beemer; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Norma was preceded in death by her parents.
