Blue Devil Girls And Boys Win At Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK (KTCH/KCTY) – The Wayne High girls’ and boys’ basketball teams were on road last night, taking on Battle Creek in a varsity doubleheader. In the girls’ game, the Lady Blue Devils took a 31-16 lead into halftime, and would build from there. Wayne played steller defense in the second half, allowing just six points, on their way to a 49-22 win. Leading the way for Wayne was Rachel Rauner with 13 points. Other scorers included Jalyn Zeiss, Tarah Stegemann and Sydney Harris with six points each. With the win, the Lady Blue Devils improve to 1-1 on the year. In the boys’ game, it was the season opener for Wayne. The Blue Devils got off to a quick start, leading 45-23 at halftime. The Blue Devils would nearly equal their first half total in the second half, as they would win the game 82-39. Brady Soden led Wayne with 17 points, Followed by Jalen Barry with 14. Also in double digits for the Blue Devils was Jared Anderson with 12, Ben Hoskins had 11 points and Grant Anderson added 10. The Wayne boys are now 1-0 on the year.
