Funeral services for LaVerne Johnson age 84 of Laurel will be held at the United Presbyterian Church in Laurel Thursday 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the United Presbyterian Church in Laurel on Wednesday from 5-8 pm with family present. Arrangements are with Hasemann Funeral Home of Laurel.

Interment will be at the Laurel Cemetery in Laurel. She passed away Saturday at Hillcrest Care Center in Laurel. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

    LaVerne Johanna Johnson was born July 9, 1928, on a farm near Dixon to John and Frieda (Maas) Thomsen.  She attended country school near Dixon.  LaVerne married Lauren Johnson January 16, 1949, at the First Lutheran Church in Allen.  The couple farmed south of Laurel.  LaVerne was employed as a cook at the Laurel-Concord Schools for over twenty-eight years.  She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, where she served as a former Deacon, and belonged to the Presbyterian Women.  LaVerne loved to garden.                                                     
     LaVerne is survived by her husband, Lauren “Shorty” Johnson; sons, Lowell Johnson of Belden and Lenard “Skinner” Johnson of Laurel; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
     LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gene and Wilbur; sister, Alverna; and daughter-in-law, Suzette Johnson.
    LaVerne’s family appreciates your thoughts and kindness and invites you to lunch in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.
