WSC's Carly Fehringer Sets New School Record In Weight Throw

KEARNEY - Wayne State College got an early start to the 2013 indoor track and field season competing in the UNK Preseason Open held in Kearney, Nebraska Friday evening and Saturday.  Joining the Wildcats in the meet were York College, Fort Hays State and host Nebraska-Kearney.
                Women’s team scoring saw Nebraska-Kearney come in first with 151.5 points with Wayne State second at 134.5.  York College (59) and Fort Hays State (50) rounded out the women’s scoring.  Men’s scoring found host UNK in first with 195 points followed by Wayne State (94), Fort Hays State (91) and York College (17).
                Junior thrower Carly Fehringer set a new school record and reached an NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 60’ 7 ¾”, breaking her old school mark of 60’ 1 ¼” set last season.  Three other Wildcats also reached NCAA provisional marks in the weight throw as Emily Wells was second at 58’ 6 ¾”, Lachel Milander took third at 58’ 2” and Kyndra Sturm fourth at 52’ 7 ¼”.  The Wildcats also dominated the shot put with three of the top four finishers getting NCAA provisional marks.  Sara Wells took first at 45’ 10 ¾” with Lachel Milander second at 45’ 2 ½” and Carly Fehringer fourth at 44’ 11 ½”.
                Other first place finishers for the Wildcat women included Lexi Guhl in the 60 meter hurdles, Skyler Lippman in the one mile run and Ashley Ramberg in the high jump.
                The men’s team had one first place finish as freshman Misael Azpeitia crossed the line first in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:44.68.  Zach Thomsen placed second in the 600 meter run (1:24.15) and Brad Wright was second in the weight throw (55 ¼”) while the 4 x 320 meter relay team took second with a time of 2:42.32. 
                Wayne State is off until January 12th, 2013 when the Wildcats compete in the Dordt College Invite in Sioux Center, Iowa.
