South Sioux City Man Stole Over $11,000 In Meat From HyVee

SOUTH SIOUX CITY - A worker at a South Sioux City Hy-Vee is accused of stealing meat and giving friends discounts. According to police, the crimes cost the company $11,800. The worker, 30-year-old Joshua VanDorn of South Sioux City, has been charged with three felony counts of theft by unlawful taking. Police said VanDorn confessed to store security that he had taken more than $11,000 in ribeye steaks, ground beef and shrimp between January 2010 and this month. Police said that VanDorn also marked down the price of meat for friends and resold some stolen merchandise to make extra money for his family. His first court appearance was Tuesday, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9.
