Florence Augusta Wilhemina Peterson was born Sept 12, 1912, to Andrew and Ida Christina (Nelson) Peterson on a farm south of Laurel. The youngest of 6 children (Siblings - Gertrude, Gustaf, Carl, Arvid, and Evan Peterson) she grew up on the farm, attended District 86 in Cedar County through the 8th grade, and then cleaned houses and helped family members and her parents as they aged.
Florence married Reinhard Bernhard (R.B.) Michels on November 10, 1945, after he returned from WWII. To them was born 1 son, Dale in 1948. Florence enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, especially flowers, quilting and making rugs in addition to helping with the operation of Michels Electric. She was a member of the Concord Evangelical Free Church where her father had been a lay pastor and was active in White Cross and Women’s Ministry. She was Secretary for many years of the Laurel Ladies Cemetery Association. In 2005 she moved to Seward, NE, then in 2008 to Lincoln, NE to be closer to her family. She passed away on December 14, 2012, at the age of 100 years and 3 months.
Florence trusted the Lord as her personal Savior at a young age and lived a life of confidently walking with Jesus. She was diligent in her study of the Bible, worship and active involvement as a Christian in the community.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her 5 siblings and their spouses, several nieces and nephews and her husband R.B. in 2003. She is survived by her son Dr. Dale Michels and wife Roylene of Walton, NE, 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Gretchen (Mrs. Kyle) Garrison, Sheila (Mrs. Brady) Clayton, Joel (Courtney) Michels all of Lincoln and 4 great grandchildren, Gabriel, Zechariah, Kaylee and Isaac Garrison as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
