Blue Devil Basketball Splits At Laurel-Concord/Coleridge

LAUREL (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High girls’ and boys’ basketball teams were on the road Tuesday night for a varsity doubleheader at Laurel-Concord/Coleridge. In the girls’ game, things got off to a slow start as the Bears lead 17-15 at halftime. The second half was dominated by Laurel, as they would tally nine points in the third and 14 points in the fourth quarter, while allowing Wayne to just 16 second half points. The final score favored the Lady Bears 40-31. Cameron Eddie of Laurel-Concord/Coleridge led all scorers with 17 points. The offensive leader for Wayne was Sarah Maxson with seven. With the win, the Bears are now 5-7 on the year, while the Blue Devils fall to 8-6.

The boys’ game saw Wayne jump out to a 21-6 first quarter lead, before allowing LCC to rally for 15 points in the second quarter. Wayne would score just eight points in the second, making the score 29-21 in favor of the Blue Devils at halftime. Wayne exploded for 45 points in second half as they pulled away from LCC, who scored just 11 points in the second half. The final score showed Wayne on top of the Bears, 76-32. Leading all scorers was Wayne’s Grant Anderson with 22 points, who was followed by Brady Soden with 16 and Jalen Barry with 11. Leading the way for LCC was Dillan Wolfgram with nine points. With the loss, the Bears are now 3-8 on the year, while the Blue Devils improve to 12-2.
