Elna Marie (Meyer) Splittgerber, 91

Elna Marie (Meyer) Splittgerber, 91, of  Marshalltown, died Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home, surrounded by her loving family.  A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 14, 2012, at the
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.  Visitation will be held from  5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January, 13, 2012, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends.  Memorial contributions may be directed in her name to the Iowa River Hospice Home, or the Lutheran Hour. Elna was born August 22, 1921, in Wayne, Nebraska, the daughter of Edward and Clara (Echtenkamp) Meyer.  She was raised and educated in the rural Wayne, Nebraska, area and was employed at People’s Natural Gas in Wayne, Nebraska, for several years.  During this time she met the love of her life Harvey Splittgerber.   They were later married at a country church near Wayne on August 12, 1943.  To this union, four children were born: Gerald, Dean, Mark, and Julie.  Throughout her lifetime Elna was a very loyal and active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, the LWML and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.  Elna retired from the Marshalltown Savings & Loan and also served her community as a volunteer at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center Coffee Shop.  Elna and her husband Harvey enjoyed traveling with their friends and were very involved with their grandchildren and their many activities.  Above all, Elna was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family and will be dearly missed by all. 
Elna is survived by her loving children: Dean (Jeri) Splittgerber of Marshalltown, Mark (Kathy) Splittgerber of West Des Moines and Julie Tichy of Marshalltown, her seven grandchildren: Matthew Splittgerber, Michael Splittgerber, Megan (Tim) Lone, Alex Splittgerber, Sarah Splittgerber, Leah Karns and Kayla Karns and her brother Melvin Meyer of Wayne, Nebraska.
Elna was preceded in death by her husband Harvey in 1993, her infant son Gerald, her parents.
