Posted: 29 January, 2013

NORFOLK (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High girls’ basketball team was in action Monday night, competing in the Mid-State Conference Tournament at Norfolk Catholic High School. The Lady Blue Devils faced off against the #2 seed and undefeated Crofton Lady Warriors. Things got off to a slow start for Wayne, as they trailed 12-2 after the first quarter. The Lady Blue Devils gained an offensive spark in the second quarter, but still trailed at halftime, 25-12. Crofton used a 21-point scoring explosion and held Wayne to just six points in the third quarter to extend their lead even further. However, Wayne would outscore Crofton 15-6 in the fourth quarter, but the final score still favored the Lady Warriors 52-33. Crofton’s Bridget Arens led all scorers with 14 points, and was followed by Allison Arens and Quinn Wragge with 12 points each. Angie Nelson and Rachel Rauner each scored six points to pace the Lady Blue Devils, while Victoria Kranz added five. Wayne is now 10-10 on the season, and will face Boone Central/Newman Grove on Thursday in a consolation bracket contest at 7:45.
