CCC Women's Basketball Program On The Rise

Posted: 31 January, 2013

COLUMBUS (CCC) - In its first season since the early 1990s, the Central Community College women's basketball team got off to a slow start at 3-9.  But the Raiders have won five of seven games since the winter break to improve to 8-11.  At one point they were down to 7 total players and went 2-2 during that stretch.

“We feel we have improved a lot and have become a very competitive team”, coach Michael Kroupa said.  “We also feel we have built a foundation that will continue to grow into a successful program.”

Seven of the nine women on the team are from Nebraska.  Members of the team are:  Emilee Page (Yutan), Eleishia Bibbs (Omaha Benson), Javona Wynne (Omaha North), Caitlin Fehringer (Wayne), Maria Glidden (Boone Central), Sophia Yarger (Wahoo Neumann) and Lindsay Larson (Cross County).   The two players from Minnesota are: Paris Crenshaw (St. Paul Highland) and Dontrayia Cole (Minnesota Transitions High).

The Raiders have had a balanced attack all season with various leading scorers each game.  They are looking forward to the last portion of their season and hoping to advance in regional play.
