Blue Devil Boys Finish Third In Mid-State Tournament

NORFOLK (KTCH/KCTY) – The Wayne High boys’ basketball competed against O’Neill in the third-place game of the Mid-State Conference Tournament at Northeast Community College in Norfolk Saturday night. The game was just a five point difference at halftime, as Wayne led 26-21. Defensive performances were strong for both teams in the third quarter, as Wayne was held to eight points, but O’Neill scored just five. The fourth quarter was a shootout for both teams, with the Blue Devils erupting for 21 points, and the Eagles scoring 19. In the end, the final score favored Wayne 55-45, giving the Blue Devils the bronze medal in this year’s conference tournament. Ben Hoskins led the offensive attack for Wayne with 14 points. He was followed by Jalen Barry and Grant Anderson who each scored 12 points. O’Neill’s Derek Hostert led all scorers with 21 points and Charley Burtwistle has 13. The third-place win moves the Blue Devils to 17-4 overall on the season.
