Johansen And Nolen Named NSIC Baseball Players Of The Week

WAYNE - The Wayne State College baseball team swept Northern Sun Conference Baseball Player of the Week honors announced Monday afternoon by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota as Tadd Johansen was named Pitcher of the Week while CJ Nolen collected Player of the Week honors for their play in last Thursday’s sweep over Bemidji State at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
Johansen, a 6-4, 180 pound senior lefthander from Elkhorn, improved to 2-0 on the season by throwing a complete game four-hitter in a 3-2 win over the Beavers. He struck out six and walked just one in the win and now has a 1.38 ERA for the season with one combined shutout and one complete game in his two wins this season.
Nolen, a 6-0, 185 pound junior first baseman from Sioux City, Iowa (West HS), went 5 for 7 at the plate with two runs scored to lead the Wildcats in a pair of 3-2 wins over the Beavers last Thursday. He was 2 for 3 with a double, run scored and stolen base in the first game and followed that by going 3 for 4 with a triple and run scored in a 3-2 nine-inning win in the second game.
Wayne State, 3-3 on the season, resumes play on Sunday, March 3rd when the Wildcats travel to Davenport, Florida for their spring break trip. The Wildcats play Ohio Dominican in the opener of the six-game trip at 2 p.m.
