WSC Sends Five To Indoor Track And Field Nationals

WAYNE - The Wayne State College indoor track and field team has five national qualifiers in six events for next weekend’s NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama March 7-9.  The official qualifying list for the national meet was announced today by NCAA as the Wildcat men have one national qualifier with the women’s team earning four national qualifiers in five events.
                Brad Wright, a senior from Ewing, is the lone Wildcat men’s qualifier and will compete in the weight throw on Thursday, March 7th at 7 p.m.  He is ranked 16th in NCAA Division II in the weight throw after recording a season-best mark of 59’ 2” to place second and earn All-NSIC honors at last weekend’s NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minnesota.
            Carly Fehringer, a junior from Wayne, is a national qualifier for the second straight season in the weight throw and will compete for the Wildcats at this year’s national meet in the shot put and weight throw.  She is ranked third in the nation in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 64’ 1 ¼” at the South Dakota Open on February 15th and will compete in the weight throw on Thursday, March 7th at 4 p.m.  Fehringer’s top mark of 46’ 9” in the shot put, also recorded at the South Dakota Open, ranks 15th in NCAA Division II and she will compete in the event on Friday, March 8th at 3:30 p.m.
            Lachel Milander, a senior from Pierce, has qualified for the weight throw and will compete on Thursday, March 7th at 4 p.m.  She is ranked 12th in NCAA Division II after recording a top throw of 60’ 6 ¾” last weekend at the NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato, resulting in a second place finish and All-NSIC honors.
            Emily Wells, a junior from Albion, ranks 16th in the weight throw after recording a season high toss of 58’9 ½” at the Concordia invitational on February 8th.  She will compete at nationals on Thursday, March 7th at 4 p.m.
            Sara Wells, a sophomore from Albion, has qualified in the shot put that will take place on Friday, March 8th at 3:30 p.m.  She is ranked 5th nationally entering the event after throwing 48’ 4 ¾”  at the South Dakota Open on February 15th.  Sara Wells earned All-NSIC Honors with a third place finish at last weekend’s NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato
