Funeral services for Dean Owens age 85 of Carroll will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll, NE on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Officiate is Rev. Pete Phillips. Dean passed away Friday at Careage of Wayne in Wayne. Visitation will be held at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present. Interment is at Elmwood Cemetery in Carroll. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Dean Rhea Owens, was born March 23, 1927, to George and Helen (Hall) Owens on a farm west of Carroll. He graduated from Carroll High School. He served in The United States Army, as a Private 1st Class in Japan, from December 1945-January 1947. Dean married Eleanor Hansen, June 17, 1951, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Carroll. The couple farmed north of Carroll all of their married life until retiring into Carroll in 1989. Dean then worked at Claybaugh Farms and for area farmers. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church near Carroll where he was baptized, confirmed and served as an elder. When Bethany Presbyterian Church disbanded in July 2011, the couple joined the FirstUnitedMethodistChurch in Carroll. He was the Board Chairman for the ASCS, a member of the Winside American Legion Post #252 and the Randolph V.F.W. Post #5545.
Dean is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughters, LeAnn (Bob) Beltz of Pierce and Becky (Rick) Lange of Hoskins; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Keith (JoAnn) Owens of Carroll; sister-in-law, JoAnn Hansen of Springfield, MO; nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his parents.
