Wayne State Announces 2013 Football Schedule

WAYNE - Wayne State College has released the 2013 football schedule. The Wildcats have six home games and five road games to make 11 conference games for the season.
The season opener will be played in Aberdeen, South Dakota as the Wildcats face Northern State at 6 pm on Saturday, September 7th. The last time the two teams met was in 2011 with Wayne State winning 37-10. The Wildcat home opener will be the following weekend as the ‘Cats welcome the University of Mary to Bob Cunningham Field for a 1 p.m. contest on September 14th. The last time the Marauders and Wildcats met was in 2011 with WSC winning 31-24.
Wayne State will then hit the road on September 21st traveling to Crookston, Minnesota to clash with the Golden Eagles of the University of Minnesota Crookston. The last meeting between the two teams was in 2011 with the Wildcats winning 35-24. Wayne State will then have their homecoming game with Minnesota Duluth coming to town on September 28th with a 1 p.m. kickoff. The last time the Bulldogs and Wildcats met UMD was #1 in the nation and defending national champion when Wayne State won 7-0 at Bob Cunningham Field in 2011.
The Wildcats then face travel partner Augustana College on October 5th at 1 p.m. in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Wildcats defeated the Vikings 31-27 last year on WSC’s homecoming. Wayne State will then be back at home on October 12th to face Southwest Minnesota State with a 6 p.m. kickoff. WSC will look to avenge last year’s 40-24 loss to the Mustangs in Marshall. On October 19th, Wayne State will travel to Winona, Minnesota to face the Warriors at 2:30 p.m. Winona State defeated Wayne State 17-13 in Wayne last season. The Wildcats then face Concordia-St. Paul in Wayne, Nebraska on October 26th at 1 p.m. and will look to beat the Golden Bears for the second straight season after winning 48-21 in 2012.
Wayne State will play Minnesota State on November 2nd in Mankato, Minnesota at 1 p.m. and look to defeat the Mavericks after falling short in a shootout last season 42-35. The Wildcats will then close out the season with a two-game home stand against Upper Iowa on November 9th and University of Sioux Falls on November 16th with both games slated to start at 1 p.m. The Wildcats defeated the Peacocks 17-14 in 2012 but fell to the Cougars 24-14 last year.
Wayne State posted a 6-5 record in 2012, marking the sixth straight winning season for the Wildcats under head coach Dan McLaughlin. It’s the first time in the 97-year history of the program that Wayne State football has had six straight winning seasons.
