Wildcat Track And Field Teams Compete At Conference Meet

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Wayne State College track and field teams competed Saturday at the NSIC Outdoor Track Championships in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at Howard Wood Field. The Wildcat women placed sixth with 67 points in 21 events while the men placed 10th with 24 points.
                The Wildcat women’s team dominated in the weight throws as Wayne junior Carly Fehringer won the hammer throw with an NSIC meet record toss of 203’ 6”, breaking the previous NSIC meet record of 195’ 5” set by Winona State’s Michelle Potter last year.  Senior Lachel Milander collected All-NSIC honors with a second place mark of 198’ 2” while junior Emily Wells helped WSC complete a sweep of All-NSIC honors in the event with a third place finish of 180’ 10”.  Mackenzie Masching was fifth in the hammer throw and Sara Wells sixth giving the Wildcats five of the top six finishers in the hammer throw.
                Sara Wells was able to take first in two throwing events as she earned All-NSIC honors in the shot put and the discus. Wells set a new school record and NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the discus with a throw of 162’ and won the shot put with a toss of 48’ 8 ¾”. Carly Fehringer also took All-Conference honors in the shot put with a throw of 45’ 6 ½” to place third while Emily Wells placed third and was All-Conference in the discus throwing it 155’ 10”.
                Senior thrower Brad Wright earned All-NSIC honors in the hammer throw with a second place throw of 177’ 9” while teammate Bryan Dunn took fifth at 168’ 6”.  Sophomore Jon Williams also medaled in the javelin placing eighth at 150’ 9”. Jared Balady took home a fourth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.43 and Matt Peter was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 51’ 4 ½”. The men’s 4 x 400 meter relay team consisting of Jared Balady, Michael King, Mickey Doerr and Zach Thomsen placed seventh with a time of 3:25/68.
