Wayne Ponies Go 2-0 At Pender Tournament

PENDER - The Wayne Pony baseball team participated in the first annual Pender tournament this past weekend, finishing 2-0 in pool play. Wayne earned a spot in the Championship game on Sunday that was rained out.
The game has been rescheduled for this Friday vs. Howells/Dodge. Highlights during pool play include, a thrilling 3-2 win over Arlington in the first game that went to extra innings. Beau Bowers led at batter at the plate going 2-3 with a double and RBI. Tucker Nichols, Justin Dean and Tristan Miller each record a hit as well. Millers hit in the seventh inning proved to be the game winner, scoring Nichols from 3rd base. Adam Bentjen started the game on the mound and Ryan Jaixen recorded the win in relief. In the second game, Wayne beat Emerson 17-5, opening the game with 11 runs in the first inning. At the plate Bowers again led the team going 3-4 with a double, triple and 4 RBIs. Justin Dean and Tyler Lutt each added 2 hits apiece. Brennan O'Reilly added a triple, and Ryan Jaixen had a hit. Hunter Jorgensen got the win on the mound.
