Posted: 22 May, 2013

NORMAL, Ill. (NRN) - In a game that saw both starting pitchers out by the bottom of the second, the Creighton baseball team suffered a 4-3 loss to No. 6 Indiana State in the opening game of the 2013 MVC Tournament on Tuesday. Down 4-1 in the ninth, the Bluejays made a strong rally. Senior Jordan Makovicka opened with a pinch-hit single to left. Two outs later, junior Federico Castagnini worked a full-count walk and sophomore Jake Peter beat out an infield single to load the bases. Trailing by three, senior Mike Gerber delivered a two-run single into center to make it 4-3. Alex Staehely was retired on a hard hit ground ball to third to end the game. Creighton will battle No. 2 Wichita State in an elimination game this morning at 9:00.
