Funeral services for Helen Beckman age 90 of Wayne will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wayne
on Friday June 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m.  Visitation will be held at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne on Thursday from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. She passed away Monday at Providence Medical Center in Wayne. Interment is at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne. Memorials may be directed to Providence Medical Center, Wayne Senior Center, and Our Savior Lutheran Church.

    Helen Anna Beckman was born March 1, 1923, near Wayneto Edward and Anna (Gasser) Gathje.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  She attended rural school districts #57 and #69, graduating from Wayne High School in 1940.  Helen married Russell Beckman December 2, 1940, at the Lutheran Church in Wayne by Rev. Most.  The couple farmed northwest of Wayne until moving into Wayne in 1962. Helen was employed at the Wayne-Carroll High School Cafeteria for seven years, the Wagon Wheel Steakhouse in Laurel from 1958-1966, and Providence Medical Center in Wayne from 1969 until retiring in 2004.  She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and Women’s Club.  Helen enjoyed embroidery work, baking, cooking, road tripping, most of all her family.
    Helen is survived by 2 sons, Dennis (Cindy) Beckman of Wayne and David Beckman of Wayne; 4 daughters, Ellen (Dennis) Carlson and Sharon (Dan) Gustafson all of Wakefield, Karen (Melvern) Pagels of Golden, CO, and LaVon Anderson of Wakefield; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Harlan (Judy) Gathje of Pender and Harold Gathje of South Sioux City; nieces and nephews.
    Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Russell in 1992; son, Duane in 1967; and son-in-law, Tom Anderson in 2012.
    Helen’s family appreciates your thoughts and kindness and invites you to lunch in the church fellowship hall following the committal service
