1966 Midget and 1968 Wayne High Baseball Teams To Hold Reunion

WAYNE - The 1966 Wayne Midgets baseball team that went 24-0 and won the state championship under the guidance of legendary coach Hank Overin is reuniting for the first time ever this weekend.
On Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13, team members from Arizona, Tennessee, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska are making the trip back to Wayne. Reunion activities include golfing on Friday, an informal get-together Friday evening and then a picnic and program on Saturday at Bressler Park. A total of 13 of the 16 team members and scorekeeper have been confirmed for the reunion. The 1966 Midget team beat Auburn for the state championship, and that season marked the only undefeated one for Overin.
Also reuniting this weekend is the 1968 Wayne High School baseball team that went 11-0 and won the Class B state championship. The team was coached by Mike Mallette and beat Norris 8-1 for the title. The 1968 Wayne High team will be at Bressler park this Saturday after the Chicken Show parade.
Both the 1966 Wayne Midgets team and the 1968 Wayne High team will be introduced at 1:35 pm at the Area 5 Junior Legion baseball tournament in Wayne on Saturday.
