Tom Cliff Named New WSC Women's Soccer Coach

Posted: 17 July, 2013

WAYNE - Wayne State College Director of Athletics Mike Powicki announced today that Tom Cliff has been named head women’s soccer coach at Wayne State College. Cliff replaces Molly Grisham, who resigned June 6 after four seasons to take the head coaching position at the University of Illinois-Springfield.
“We are excited to have someone of Tom’s experience and expertise taking the helm of our women’s soccer program here at Wayne State College,” remarked Powicki.  “He has a clear vision on how to advance our soccer program and achieve sustained success.  We look forward to Tom and his family becoming Wildcats and getting them to Wayne.”
Cliff brings 18 years of coaching experience to the Wildcat program and has served most recently as the director of soccer and head soccer coach at Adams State in Colorado.  He took a team from 1-19 and elevated the program to a school record seven wins in the 2011 season.  He coached 12 RMAC All-Conference players and had 29 NSCAA All-Academic selections while also overseeing a men’s soccer program at the school beginning in 2010.  Cliff also coached at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa from 2003-2007 and guided the Red Raiders to the NAIA Sweet 16 Playoffs in 2006 while leading the team to the most wins in school history and coaching four NAIA All-Americans.
“I am very excited about this opportunity extended by Wayne State College, Athletic Director Mike Powicki and the search committee,” remarked Cliff.  “I look forward to taking Wayne State College into this new era.”
Wayne State is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 16-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.  The Wildcats open the 2013 season on Thursday, September 5 at Northwest Missouri State in a 4 p.m. contest.
