Wakefield Seniors Beat Laurel In First Round Of C-2 Tournament

BATTLE CREEK (KTCH/KCTY) - In the Class C, Area 2 seniors’ tournament from Battle Creek, Wakefield-Ponca squared off with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge yesterday. The game began as a pitchers duel for the first two and a half scoreless innings, before the bats came alive. Wakefield plated six runs in the bottom of the third inning to lead 6-0. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge responded with two runs in the fourth, but gave up two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge one more run in the fifth before finally allowing five runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning. The game was then called due to the 10 mercy rule, as the final score favored Wakefield-Ponca 13-3. In action today, Wakefield faces Stanton at 7:00 this evening, while LCC will take on Battle Creek in an elimination game at 1:00.
