Blue Devils Down Eagles 46-6

WAYNE (KTCH/KCTY) – The Wayne High football team took their 1-0 record on the road last night as they faced 1-0 O’Neill.
Wayne got the ball to start the contest and the drive ended after the Blue Devils elected to go for a 44-yard field goal and came up just short. The Defense gave the ball right back to the offense however, and just a few minutes later, Jalen Barry hooked up with Jack Belt for an 18-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was no good and Wayne led 6-0.
The Blue Devils would then go on a run of strong defensive series’ followed by three consecutive touchdowns by the offense. Scoring plays included a one-yard run by Barry, the second Barry to Belt connection this time for 71 yards and a 43-yard run by Mike Cliff. At halftime, Wayne led 27-0. Wayne would next score with 4:57 to go in the third quarter as Barry hit the hat trick tossing a 13-yard strike to Luke Rethwisch in the end zone. The Blue Devils scored once more in the third quarter when Demetrius Alexander broke through for a six-yard scoring runs, making it 40-0 Wayne.
O’Neill would finally put their name on the scoreboard when Kedron Koehler got free for a 48-yard touchdown run. The Eagles would fail on the two-point conversion, making the score 40-6 in favor of Wayne. The Blue Devils had one more score in them however, as Drew Davie made his presence known by way of a 60-yard touchdown run.
The PAT was blocked and the final score showed Wayne on top, 46-6. The Blue Devils are now off to a 2-0 start on the season and host South Sioux City next Friday.
