Hot Weather Adds Stress To Dryland Corn

LINCOLN (AP) - Federal authorities say above-normal temperatures and limited rainfall have added more stress to Nebraska's dryland corn. The Department of Agriculture says that for the week ending Sunday, dryland corn conditions rated 35 percent good or excellent, compared with 59 percent on the average. Irrigated corn conditions rated 81 percent good or excellent, compared with 75 percent on average. Nebraska soybean conditions rated 61 percent good or excellent. The state's alfalfa conditions were rated 49 percent good or excellent. The third cutting was 95 percent complete, higher than the average of 93 percent by this date. The fourth cutting was 13 percent complete, far below the 31 percent average by this date. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 75 percent short or very short.
