Nebraska Governor's Race Filling Up

Posted: 10 September, 2013

LINCOLN (AP) - The Nebraska governor’s race is quickly taking shape, with a flurry of new candidates launching their 2014 bids and others weighing their options. Republican businessman Pete Ricketts officially jumped into the race on Sunday, and state Sen. Beau McCoy will embark Tuesday on a multi-city campaign tour. The candidates will join state Sens. Tom Carlson and Charlie Janssen, and State Auditor Mike Foley in the GOP primary. Republican Matt Williams, the president of Gothenberg State Bank, says he is leaning toward a run for an open legislative seat, but is also looking at the governor’s race. Another potential GOP candidate, Rex Fisher, says he has ruled out a run 2014. Former University of Nebraska Regent Chuck Hassebrook and Nebraska state Sen. Annette Dubas are running in the Democratic primary.
