Weldon A. Karlberg, aged 79, of Wakefield

Weldon A. Karlberg, 79, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Wakefield Care Center.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Thompson Chapel Funeral Home. Military rites and fire department tribute will be at the Wakefield Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Chapel in Wakefield.

Weldon Arnold Karlberg was born March 31, 1934 at Allen, Nebraska to Oscar and Genevieve (Warner) Karlberg. The family farmed near Allen, moved into Allen and then moved into Wakefield. Weldon graduated from Wakefield High School in 1952. At the age of 16, Weldon was employed at the Milton G. Waldbaum Company in Wakefield.

Weldon entered the U. S. Army in 1957 and received an honorable discharge in 1962. Weldon cared for his parents until they deceased and then moved into an apartment at the Hotel in Wakefield. Weldon worked for the M. G. Waldbaum Company for forty seven years, retiring in 1996. Since July, 1998 Weldon has been a resident of the Wakefield Health Care Center.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed being with people. His hobbies were bowling, wood working, going out to eat, and watching all sports, car racing, and reading. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Mrs. Don (Carolyn) Karlberg and niece, Allison, of Houston, Tx and cousins, Dean Karlberg of Dayton, Nevada, Eleanor Ailts of Rushmore, Minn. , Lorna Pearson of Ralston, Ne., Pauline Karlberg of Randolph, Ne., Keith Karlberg of Allen, Ne., Marilyn Webb of Allen, Ne. and Duane Karlberg of Horn Lake, Mississippi.

Weldon was preceded in death by his parents and brother Don Karlberg.
