WSC Women's Soccer Bested In Close Contest

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Missouri Western scored the lone goal of the contest 2:14 into the second half as the host Griffons edged Wayne State College 1-0 in non-conference women’s soccer played Friday afternoon in St. Joseph, Missouri. Missouri Western is now 2-2 on the season while Wayne State drops to 0-3.
The first half was scoreless as Missouri Western outshot WSC 11-5. Wayne State nearly scored in the 40th minute when a shot by Macy Hagen hit the crossbar. The host Griffons struck early in the second half for the only goal of the game as Ashley Juravich scored from 10 yards out to give Missouri Western the 1-0 lead, which held up the rest of the contest as the Griffons posted the win.
Missouri Western finished the contest with a 29-9 advantage in shots and 14-2 edge in shots on goal. The Griffons had four corner kicks to one by the Wildcats with Wayne State called for 14 fouls compared to six on Missouri Western.
Sophomore Josie Brown had three shots with one on goal while Macy Hagen added two shots and one on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kylie Comba notched 13 saves while allowing just one goal in the loss.
Wayne State opens Northern Sun Conference play at home Sunday afternoon hosting Augustana College in a 1 p.m. contest at the WSC Soccer Complex.
