WSC Volleyball Sweeps William Jewell

PUEBLO, Colo. - #8 Wayne State College swept William Jewell 3-0 at the CSU Pueblo Ramada ThunderWolves Volleyball Classic with scores of the match going 25-14, 25-16 and 25-9.
The Wildcats relentlessly pounded the ball hitting .533 in the contest with 55 kills and seven errors on 90 total attacks. WSC improves to 7-0 on the season while William Jewell falls to 1-6.
Wayne State’s defense forced William Jewell into a .074 hitting percentage in the first set as they could only muster seven kills on 27 attacks with five errors. The Wildcats were able to hit .586 in the first set with 19 kills and only two errors on 29 attacks. WSC continued the sizzling hitting percentage in the second set with another 19 kills and two attack errors, this time on 30 attacks, for a hitting percentage of .567. The ‘Cats dipped below the .500 hitting percentage mark in the third set hitting .452 with 17 kills and three errors on 31 attacks.
Wayne State held advantages in every statistical category in the game except for blocks which the teams tied with three each. WSC outhit William Jewell .533-.149, had 48 assists to 21, held the edge in service aces 8-2 and had the advantage in digs 46-26.
Senior Cori Hobbs led the Wildcats in kills with 16 with a hitting percentage of .419 (three errors on 31 attacks). Freshman Alyssa Frauendorfer was also in double digit kills for WSC with 10 and hit .600 with one error on 15 attacks. Elizabeth Gebhardt hit 1.000 for the match with eight kills on eight attacks. Setter Leisa McClintock dished out a team high 39 assists while Katie Hughes paced the team in digs with 19.
The Wildcats play Southwestern Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. Mountain Time Saturday to conclude play at the CSU Pueblo Ramada ThunderWolves Volleyball Classic in Colorado.
