Memorial services with military rites for Gene Jorgensen Age 72 of Winside will be held at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church in Winside on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Memorial visitation with family present will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winside on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Private family interment will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Winside. Memorials may be directed to the care of the family for a later designation. He passed away Saturday at the Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk.

Gene LeRoy Jorgensen was born December 18, 1940, near Carroll to Christian and Esther (Bargstadt) Jorgensen. He graduated from Belden High School in 1959. Gene served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1979. Gene married Carol Jaeger December 1, 1963, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Winside. The couple lived on a farm near Winside following Gene’s retirement from the military. After attending Northeast Technical Community College for two years, Gene worked at Mid City Stereo and later Nebraska Appliance in Norfolk as an HVAC technician for many years. Also during this time, he was a bus driver for the Winside School District for 18 years. Over the years, Gene served on the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Council and Winside School Board. He was a member of Winside American Legion Post #252. He very much enjoyed spending time with his family.
Gene is survived by his wife, Carol; their sons, Christopher (Rebecca) Jorgensen of Seattle, WA, Steven (Michele) Jorgensen of Winside, Martin (Claire) Jorgensen of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Alice (Den) Rohde of Carroll, Darlene (Cliff) Dempsay of Lancaster, CA; brothers, Richard (Lani) Jorgensen of Maple Grove, MN, Jim (Karon) Jorgensen of Norfolk, Marinus “Skip” (Lynne) Jorgensen of Faulkner, MD, nieces and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cheryl Lundy; in-laws, Wayne Lundy, Dianne Jorgensen Marvin Herscheid , Larry Stark, and Jim Melcher.
