Posted: 16 September, 2013

WAYNE - Annie Thoresen recorded a hat trick for Augustana College as Wayne State fell to the Vikings 4-1 Sunday afternoon in the Northern Sun Conference women’s soccer opener for both teams played at the WSC Soccer Complex.  The visiting Vikings move to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in league play while the Wildcats drop to 0-4 and 0-1 in the NSIC.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie for most of the first half until the Vikings put together three goals in the final 10 minutes of the half.  Thoresen scored the first of three goals at the 35:59 mark followed by a goal from Payton Pry 1:15 later.  Thoresen scored again with just 39 seconds left before halftime for a 3-0 Augustana lead at intermission.
Thoresen completed the hat trick with a goal at the 61:07 mark for a 4-0 Viking lead.  Wayne State avoided the shutout with just under two minutes left in the contest as senior forward Macy Hagen got a ball from Josie Brown and beat Viking goaltender Ashley Limmer to get the Wildcats on the board to make the final score 4-1.
Augustana held a 16-7 advantage in shots over Wayne State including 10-5 in shots on goal.  The Wildcats had a 9-7 edge in corner kicks over the Vikings while WSC was called for 11 fouls compared to eight on Augustana.
Individually for Wayne State, Hagen scored her second goal of the season for the Wildcats and had a team-high two shots with both on goal.  Mackenzie Evans, Kelsey Engstrom and Erin Slattery also had shots on goal for the Wildcats.  Goalkeeper Kylie Comba was credited with six saves.

The Wildcats will be at home again next weekend, hosting Northern State Saturday and MSU Moorhead Sunday in a pair of 1 p.m. Northern Sun Conference contests at the WSC Soccer Complex.
