Pamelyn Lu Gillespie, age 66 of Norman, Nebraska

Posted: 18 September, 2013

Pamelyn Lu Gillespie, age 66, died suddenly on September 5, 2013 at her home in Norman, Nebraska. She was born on May 6, 1947 in Alliance, Nebraska to Franklin E. Backstrom and Margaretta L. (Foltz) Backstrom.
Pam attended school at Alliance from kindergarten to her junior year.  The family moved to Curtis, Nebraska in 1965.  She then completed and graduated high school in 1966 from Curtis.  At age 19, Pamelyn was the first female student to enroll in Agricultural Drafting, Surveying and Soil Science at the University of Nebraska Technical College in Curtis, Nebraska.
In her younger years, Pam was an avid swimmer and held an adventurous spirit for life.  That spirit she kept throughout her life.
Pamelyn married Rodney Gillespie in July of 1967.  To this union two boys were born, James L. and Richard K.  After a divorce, the family moved to various locations and settled in Minden, where both boys finished their high school education.  Pam independently moved from Minden to Norman, Nebraska; her last residing address.
Pam experienced a colorful life, which spanned various careers; nursing, clerical, beekeeping, dog breeder, caregiver, and mail carrier.  She always embraced the entrepreneurial spirit and enjoyed a wide range of activities including and not limited to gardening, animal husbandry, sewing, crafting, traveling, and reading.
While her pride was her family, her passion was her dogs.  She will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Pamelyn is survived by her sons and their wives:  James and Kris Gillespie of Minden, Nebraska, and Richard and Nicole Gillespie of Loomis, Nebraska; brother, Terry Ben  and his wife, Sondra Backstrom of Ohiowa, Nebraska; five grandchildren, one great grandchild and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Margaretta Backstrom, and one brother and his wife, Foltz and JoAnn Backstrom.
Memorials can be sent to Start Over Rover or Central Nebraska Humane Society, animal rescue agencies.
God’s grace will be with Pamelyn for all eternity.  Private family services will be at a later date.
Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of arrangements.
