#18 Wildcats Make Quick Work Of Bemidji In NSIC Volleyball

BEMIDJI, MN - #18 Wayne State College made quick work of Bemidji State in Northern Sun Conference volleyball Saturday afternoon at BSU Gymnasium in Bemidji, Minnesota as the Wildcats cruised to a 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13 win over the Beavers.
The Wildcats are now 19-7 on the season and improve to 10-6 in the NSIC while Bemidji State falls to 5-19 and 1-15 in league play with the loss.
Wayne State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set and never looked back in taking a 25-13 set win as the Wildcats forced Bemidji State into nine attack errors and a .-103 hitting percentage in the first set.
The second set saw the Wildcats post a 25-16 win thanks to five kills and three blocks from freshman middle hitter Alyssa Frauendorfer as WSC posted a match-high 13 kills in the set win.
WSC completed the sweep in the third set with a 25-13 win thanks to a .323 attack percentage (12 kills and two errors in 31 attacks) while forcing eight more Beaver errors.
Wayne State finished the match hitting .248 while holding Bemidji State to a .058 attack percentage. WSC had 36 kills to 29 for Bemidji State and had eight blocks to five for the Beavers.
For Wayne State, Frauendorfer led the Wildcats in hitting for the second straight night recording a match-high 13 kills in 21 attempts with just one attack error for a .571 attack percentage. She also had six blocks in the win. Cori Hobbs followed with six kills and had 10 digs while Elizabeth Gebhardt had six kills and four blocks.
Sophomore Katie Hughes accounted for a team-high 16 digs with libero Courtney VanGroningen adding 14 and setter Leisa McClintock was credited with 28 assists and had nine digs. Van Groningen had three of Wayne State’s five service aces in the contest.
Wayne State will be at home next weekend, hosting #23 Northern State Friday evening at 7 p.m. followed by a Saturday afternoon contest against MSU Moorhead at 4 p.m.
