Funeral services for John Peterson age 85 of Carroll will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Carroll on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne on Thursday from 5:00 p.m.
8:00 p.m. with family present. Interment with Military Rites will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Carroll. He died Monday at Providence Medical Center in Wayne. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Carroll. Arrangements with Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne.

John Elmer Peterson was born May 29, 1928, on a farm near Laurel to Elmer and Elna (Kardell) Peterson. He attended school at District #75 in Cedar County and graduated from Laurel High School in 1945. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. John married Norma Bichel, September 18, 1955, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in rural Wakefield. He farmed for many years near Carroll and was a rural mail carrier for 16 years. John was a member of the American Legion since 1953 and the Carroll Volunteer Fire Department for 13 years.
John is survived by his wife, Norma; children, Carol (Lane) Ostendorf of Sioux City, IA, Larry Peterson of Carroll, and Katherine Peterson of Columbus; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Whitney of Virginia Beach, VA; many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Einer, Carl, and Robert (Annabelle) Peterson; sister, Vera Peterson; granddaughter, Marcie Reeg; and grandson, Michael Ostendorf.
