OAKLAND (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High volleyball team competed in the semifinal round of the C1-7 subdistrict tournament in Oakland last night. The Blue Devils are the #1 seed, and had a first round bye, while West Point-Beemer had to beat Logan View in order to play Wayne. The Blue Devils beat West Point-Beemer in three sets, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-16. Ashton Schweers and Madison Frevert led the hitting attack for Wayne with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Emma Evetovitch handed out 31 set assists, while Meagan Backer recorded 26 digs to go along with 10 from Schweers. The Blue Devils overcame some adversity on the night, as their game was delayed over an hour and a half due to the tournament running behind schedule, and then one of the officials in the match collapsed during the third set. With all of the now behind them, Wayne will face Wisner-Pilger in the C1-7 finals at 7:00 tonight.
