Blue Devils Earn Trip To District Championship

OAKLAND (KTCH/KCTY) - The Wayne High volleyball team continued on its path to the state tournament last night, as they met Wisner-Pilger in the C1-7 Subdistrict finals. Wayne took the first set by a score of 25-21. Wisner-Pilger responded by taking the second set, also 25-21. The Blue Devils would impose their will from then on however, winning the third set 25-16 and the fourth set 25-19. Wayne boasted four players in double digit kills, as Madison Frevert led the way with 13, followed by Ashton Schweers and Paige Wacker with 11 each while Alyssa Schmale had 10. Emma Evetovitch also had a productive night, handing out 40 set assists. Meagan Backer racked up 48 digs, to go along with 22 from Schweers, 13 from Peyton Roach, 12 from Evetovitch and 11 from Schmale. Wayne is now 24-6 on the year, and will face Norfolk Catholic in the C1-4 District Championship for a chance to go to state on Friday.
