MSU Moorhead Rally Stuns #18 Wayne State

WAYNE - MSU Moorhead rallied from a two-set deficit to stun #18 Wayne State College in Northern Sun Conference volleyball Saturday afternoon at Rice Auditorium in Wayne.

After WSC won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-17, the visiting Dragons rallied for set wins of 23-25, 17-25 and 10-15 to defeat the Wildcats. Wayne State drops to 19-9 overall and 10-8 in the NSIC, while MSU Moorhead is now 15-11 and 8-10 in league play.

MSU Moorhead held a .236 to .193 edge in hitting over the Wildcats forcing 28 WSC attack errors. The Dragons had a sizeable 12-4 edge in blocks over the Wildcats, while WSC had three more kills than MSU Moorhead 65-62.

Senior outside hitter Cori Hobbs had 18 kills and 18 digs for her 20th double-double of the season. Lexi Malm, Leisa McClintock and Alyssa Frauendorfer each added 11 kills for the Wildcats. Sophomore libero Courtney VanGroningen had 30 digs with Katie Hughes notching 15, and McClintock had 46 assists and was one dig shy (nine) of having her second triple-double of the year to go with her 11 kills.

Wayne State will close out the regular season with road games next weekend at the University of Mary Friday evening at 7 p.m. and Minot State Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
