WAYNE STATE VOLLEYBALL AWARDED AVCA TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD FOR 10TH STRAIGHT SEASON

WAYNE – The Wayne State College volleyball team was awarded the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) Team Academic Award Wednesday afternoon for the 2014-15 season.  The Wildcats recorded a team cumulative grade point average of 3.78 during the 2014-15 academic year, marking the 10th consecutive season the WSC volleyball team has received the team academic honor.

The #1 (3-0) Pender vs. #4 (3-1) Tekamah-Herman Class C Area 2 Championship game has been postponed till this evening at 5 p.m. Pender defeated Tekamah-Herman earlier on in the tournament on Saturday, 8-7. T-H has to win the first game to force the winner take all championship game, while Pender just needs one win to qualify for the Class C2 Sr. Tournament.

Wakefield Post 81 Season Ends Tuesday

A pair of three run innings could not seal the deal on the final day of the 2015 Class B Area 5 Sr. American Legion Baseball Tournament for Wakefield. The #1 Wakefield Post 81 Seniors fell to #2 Albion 9-7 Tuesday evening at Eaton Field in Wakefield. Wakefield ends their season at 19-19 while Albion will qualify for the Sr. State Baseball tournament with a 15-13 record and will play on Saturday August 1st in Cozad, NE.

Hickman tops Wayne 2-1; Ends Post 43 Juniors Season

The Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion Baseball season came to an end Tuesday evening in an elimination game on Day 4 of the 2015 Class B State Tournament. Wayne fell to Hickman 2-1 in a walk-off single to win the game in the bottom of the 7th for the Hickman Post 105 Jrs. Wayne ends their season at 23-11 while Hickman advances on with a 28-11 record.

Bennington Post 266 defeats Wayne Post 43 7-3

The Wayne Post 43 Juniors were in competition Monday evening for the 2015 Class B Jr. American Legion Baseball State Tournament in Bennington. Two undefeated teams squared away and Bennington came out victorious with the 7-3 win over Wayne. Bennington Post 266 improves to 25-13 while Wayne Post 43 falls to 23-10.

Petteway shines in NBA Summer League

Terran Petteway put together his strongest performance in the NBA Summer League Thursday night in Atlanta’s 82-73 win over Denver.
 
The former Nebraska standout was one of five Hawks in double figures, finishing with 14 points, and added nine rebounds and seven assists. In addition to his offensive effort, Petteway also chipped in two blocked shots and a pair of steals in handing Denver its first loss in Summer League.

The Wayne Post 43 Junior American Legion baseball team was in competition Saturday afternoon in the Class B 2015 State Jr. Tournament. Wayne defeated the Crete Post 355 6-5 in 7 innings to improve to 22-9 overall and play Omaha Roncalli at 4 p.m. Sunday. Crete fell to 15-9 on the season and will face Holdrege on Sunday at 10 a.m.

White Bronco's finish season with Tournament win

The Wayne White Bronco’s finished their season Thursday night by winning the Tri-County League Tournament 8-4 over the host team, Oakland-Craig White. The Bronco’s recorded wins over North Bend White Sox 9-1, Logan View Gold 3-2, and Bancroft-Lyons 5-2. The White Bronco’s finished the year with a 14-1 record.

Wayne, Neb. --- Wayne State College head women’s basketball coach Chris Kielsmeier announced today that Alisa Petersen, a transfer from Western Wyoming Community College, has signed a national letter of intent to continue to her basketball career with the Wildcat women’s basketball program.  The 6-1 forward from Garden City, Utah will have two years of eligibility with the Wildcats and joins high school signings Andrea Larson (Mediapolis, Iowa) and Maggie Lowe (Perry, Iowa) and junior college transfers Kirsten Larson (Kirkwood CC) and Anna Martensen (Kirkwood CC) as members of the 2015 recruiting class.
